Global Geography & Structure

The campaign takes place across The Cantoral Archipelago (known in the Old Faith as Vae’alani, or The Bones of Vae’a, and called The Shallows or The Mareas by local sailors).

The world is divided into Regions, colloquially and officially named “Islas”.

  • View World Map
  • The Mainland: A massive, terrifying continent “outside” the known Isles. Very few natives have been there, and few mainlanders come here. It definitely exists but is a place of fear and mystery.
  • Islas (Regions): Large geographic territories.
    • Naming: “Isla [Name]” (e.g., Isla Aethel, Isla Prima).
    • Composition: A region can be a single massive landmass or an archipelago of many small islands.
  • Islands: The physical landmasses within a Region.
    • Variety: Can be completely empty, house a single home, support a small village, or contain multiple cities.

Travel Distances (Standard Sail)

  • Inter-Region (Isla to Isla): Typically 2-3 Days of sailing.
  • Intra-Region (Island to Island): Highly variable. Ranges from minutes (visual distance) to over a day depending on the archipelago’s density.

Note on the compressed timeline: the campaign’s in-game day count is deliberately compressed, and table-canon crossings have run shorter than the figures above. The Drift → Isla Hela run is ~1 day’s sail. Canon_Timeline.md is the authority on elapsed days; treat the figures above as rough defaults for unplayed voyages only.

Known Regions (Islas)

Isla Prima

  • Type: Prominently one large landmass.
  • Key Law: The central seat of governance for the immediate area.
  • Locations:
    • Tide’s End: A major city and trade hub (High Sun Market, Governor’s Office).

Isla Dorada (“The Gilded Isles”)

  • Type: Likely an archipelago of luxury.
  • Key Locations:
    • Aurelia: A city for the ultra-rich. Morrigan Alastor’s home.

Isla Aethel

  • Type: A region of scattered islands (Archipelago).
  • Current Status: Hotbed of Atlas Group industrial activity and Cold Iron Consortium surveillance.
  • Key Locations:
    • The Hollows: A hidden shantytown in sea caves. Locations: The Barnacle Bastion (Umaro’s Smithy), Finn’s Stalls, The Crucible & Coral (Aluthra’s alchemy shop), and The Driftwood Inn (Pip & Pearl). Black-market channel: The Blind Quay.
    • Whispering Deep Outpost: Major Atlas Group extraction site.

Isla Faro

  • Type: Large barrier island chain between the main Isles and the Mainland. Known for dangerous shoals and many lighthouses.
  • Key Locations:

Isla Hela

  • Description: An outer archipelago region. ~1 day’s sail from The Drift. See Isla_Hela_Region for the full layout.
  • Key Locations:
    • Glimmer Reef: The bleached outer barrier reef, ~1 mile seaward. A reef, not a settlement.
    • Low-Hela (“The Spit”): The stilt-dock fishing village where the party landed — The Stilt Docks.
    • Great Hela: The inner island; Elder Kaia’s seat (The Weeping Cloister) and the Children of the Salt’s pearl temples. Not yet visited.
    • Gus’s Bunker: Subterranean safehouse maintained by Gus, on the cliffs above Low-Hela.
    • The Bleached Lady: Shipwreck on Glimmer Reef, above The Grandmother’s Scar (the ley-line trench).

Other Locations (Unsorted)

  • Conch Cay: Briony’s home island (Village: Carpe Diem). Likely part of a smaller unnamed region or one of the above.
  • Siren’s Rest: A neutral tavern on a lonely rock spire. Currently unplaced (removed from Isla Aethel). Good candidate for a remote outpost.

V. The Moving City

The Drift

  • Type: A nomadic flotilla city.
  • Location: Constantly moving; currently tracking the warm currents south of Isla Aethel.
