Main Arcs
loreMain Campaign Arcs
These are the three primary conflicting plotlines driving the campaign’s tension.
1. The Shuttering Ritual (Elder Kaia)
- Goal: Preserve the ancient culture and magical protection of the islands by healing the Mother Sea.
- The “Intimate Bad”: Creating a permanent magical isolation barrier around the islands (“The Shuttering”).
- The “Bad World” Consequence: Ecological collapse. Deep-sea currents are disrupted, causing coral die-off and steering hurricanes directly over inhabited islands.
- Status: Stalled. The ritual requires a “Silent Tide” (magical resonance), which is being actively disrupted by the noise of Governor Finch’s dredging machines.
- Countdown: Kaia must wait for the Deep Moon — Day 22 to overpower the noise, or resort to sabotage to silence the machines earlier. (The date comes from Kaia’s letter, looted S11 on Day 8; before that the Deep Moon was only “approaching,” with no number.)
2. The Dredging Contract (Governor Finch)
- Goal: Bring lasting prosperity and modern infrastructure (hospitals, roads) to the impoverished islands.
- The “Intimate Bad”: Signing a dredging contract with the “Atlas Group” (a criminal syndicate) to expand the harbor.
- The “Bad World” Consequence: Economic Tyranny. The contract grants the Atlas Group sovereignty, leading to resource exploitation and debt-slavery for the locals.
- Status: Pending. Negotiations are ongoing. Finch is pressured by the immediate need for resources to fight the Salt Rot.
3. The Bio-Magical Cure (Dr. Elias Thorne)
- Goal: Discover a fast, permanent cure for the Salt Rot.
- The “Intimate Bad”: Conducting accelerated, untested experiments on the Crystalline Siphon coral to synthesize an antidote.
- The “Bad World” Consequence: Magical Radioactive Contamination. Creates poisonous fish and permanent, unpredictable magical tempests around the islands.
- Status: Dangerous. Thorne has been merged into the Watchtower Lighthouse as a biological medium powering Atlas’s archipelago-wide sonar pulse.
Tier 2 Macro Arcs (Levels 6–10 Pivot)
As the party reaches Level 6, the campaign shifts from localized survival to regional power dynamics and deep arcane mysteries. The three faction struggles above are revealed to be symptoms of a larger underlying truth.
The Core Truth: The Bleeding Ley-Lines
Clarion is not merely an extraction mineral or rare crystal—it is the calcified “blood” and immune response of the archipelago’s ancient, wounded Ley-Line network. The calcification on the outer reef at Isla Hela (“The Grandmother’s Scar”) proves the ley-lines have been slowly leaking ambiently for decades. Atlas’s deep dredging is ripping the wound wide open, triggering regional unstable blooms and Salt Rot epidemics.
Tier 2 Arc A: The Awakening of the Ley-Line Guardian (Mythic / Ecological Arc)
- Premise: Bringing 45 lbs of raw Clarion to Isla Hela has awakened The Grandmother of the Waters—the ancient leviathan/archfey guardian of Isla Hela’s reef.
- The Stakes: The party holds both the Siphon Core (attuned to Morrigan) and raw Clarion. They can either use these artifacts to stabilize the sea’s ancient nerves or risk Atlas’s Watchtower Sonar Pulse causing a catastrophic, archipelago-wide “Clarion Surge.”
- Glasya’s Riddle Connection: Interactions with the deep guardian hinge on truth over greed: “When someone down there asks what you want, don’t say ‘the crate.’ Say something true.”
Tier 2 Arc B: Undefined
- Status: This slot has no arc. Arcs A and C exist; B was never written, and the rulings of September 2026 leave it deliberately undefined.
- Do not invent one here. When a second Tier 2 arc is decided at the table, define it in this heading. Until then, treat “Arc B” as an empty placeholder — not a missing document.
Tier 2 Arc C: Sins of the Fathers & The Shadow Hegemony (Personal / Faction Convergence)
- Premise: The overarching war between The Atlas Group and The Cold Iron Consortium is tied directly to the PCs’ lineages.
- The Web:
- Briony’s Father (Rual Shard): Working with Atlas as a disgraced druid scout, mapping ley-line nodes for industrial extraction.
- Morrigan’s Father (Caspian Alastor / Tropic Star Lines): Financing the Cold Iron Consortium—the fanatical purge order dedicated to hunting non-human, fae, and fiend beings like Morrigan.
- The Stakes: As the Consortium seeks the Siphon Core to purge all magic, and Atlas seeks it to power their technocracy, the party must confront their families’ shadows to decide who inherits the archipelago.
