Zyla Vane

Canon Facts

• Bosun of the Nebuchadnezzar.
• Met the party at Tide’s End (Session 01) during boarding.
• Was successfully charmed/pickpocketed by Morrigan — she stole the 10g passage fee back (plus 2 extra).
• Mentioned Dr. Thorne and Watchtower Cay as the destination for a delivery.
• Attended dinner with the party at The Gilded Keel in The Drift (S08).
• Auction Intel: Provided detailed intel on the Tar Pit auction; confirmed he cannot outbid rivals.
• Consumption: Ate eel tartar and the Siren’s Call Tart at the Gilded Keel. Successfully made his Constitution save against immediate Salt Rot (S08), but remains at risk due to micro-dosing.
• Financial Support: Staked the party at the Gilded Keel, providing them with a high-status cover for planning.
• Family Code: His code phrase for Tessa Rook was revealed: “The blue goose must not poop in the garden.”
• Silence in Session 11: During the voyage to The Grandmother’s Scar in Session 11, Morrigan activated her Sending Shell to check in on Zyla and the Nebuchadnezzar. The transmission went through, but no voice answered; the shell leached heat and turned deathly cold in Morrigan’s hand. This is the full extent of player knowledge — the party knows only that the Sending shell went dead cold. They do not know where Zyla is, or whether he lives.

Description

• Visuals: Anomaly on a rough crew — tailored vest, precisely rolled sleeves, impeccably groomed hair. Carries a heavy leather ledger.
• Voice: Clipped, precise diction that cuts through the noise.
• Vibe: Corporate executive in a den of pirates.

Personality

• The Office Manager: Treats piracy like a high-stakes business. Schedules punishments, audits rather than brawls.
• All-Knowing: Knows where every bolt, biscuit, and rum bottle is located. Uses crew secrets for leverage.
• Facade of Order: Loathes chaos. A bloodstain disrupts the cleaning schedule.
• Flustered by Chaos: Struggles when people don’t fit his columns and rows.

Motivation

Perfection and Efficiency: Wants the Neb to be the finest ship on the sea — not for glory, but because anything less is unprofessional.

Quotes

• “Mr. Finch, I have you scheduled for a keelhauling at 0900. Do try to be prompt.”
• “That is not a ‘brave skirmish,’ that is a liability. You’ve ruined the quarterly projections.”

Mechanics

• Treat as Spy (MM) with Expertise in Insight and Investigation

Loyalty

VERY loyal to Captain Moray. The ship comes first, always. Side hustles exist because Moray’s ship is legitimate enough to carry contraband. Would never endanger the Neb or betray Moray.
