Usually, this information comes from a library, scriptorium, university, or a sage or other learned person or creature. Your DM might rule that the knowledge you seek is secreted away in an almost inaccessible place, or that it simply cannot be found. Unearthing the deepest secrets of the multiverse can require an adventure or even a whole campaign.

Re-Entry at Level 6
Oz exited in-fiction in Session 07, just before the party hit Level 5 — and he took the Chart of Uncharted Shoals with him. The sheet above is his Level 4 sheet as played. When David returns, Oszchwald is rebuilt straight to Level 6 (Thief Rogue 6: 3d6 Sneak Attack, Uncanny Dodge, 2x Expertise, Fast Hands, Second-Story Work, Piercer Feat), skipping 5. Hooks for bringing him back in:
-
Hook 1 — The Whispering Deep Infiltrator (Heist Rescue):
- In-Fiction Lore: Oz tracked rumors of Atlas’s bio-magical research to Whispering Deep using Kaelen’s ledger. When the Nebuchadnezzar and Captain Moray were impounded in the industrial drydocks at Whispering Deep after the Battle of the Doldrums, Oz slipped inside the docks disguised as an archivist/dockhand.
- Re-entry Beat: The party finds Oz hiding in the rigging of the Neb or in the dockmaster’s rafters with the key ring and harbor security plans.
-
Hook 2 — The Drift Underground Courier (Tidecaller Intel):
- In-Fiction Lore: Working out of the Crow’s Roost with Tessa Rook, Oz audited the financial books of the Tar Pit and Gilded Keel, uncovering the money trail linking Tropic Star Lines (Caspian Alastor) to the Cold Iron Consortium.
- Re-entry Beat: Oz arrives via a Tide Caller dispatch boat on Isla Hela or intercepts the Shadow Sprinter at sea with critical ledger intelligence.
-
Hook 3 — The Hermit’s Scholar (Isla Hela Contact):
- In-Fiction Lore: Investigating the raw Clarion shard he salvaged in Session 1, Oz traced old texts to Isla Hela’s outer reef and has been studying the “Grandmother’s Scar” in secret.
- Re-entry Beat: Gus reveals he is sheltering Oz in the secondary workshop of Gus’s Bunker.
