Overview
Large barrier island chain located between the main Isle regions and the Mainland. Acts as a shield against the rougher open ocean but is itself treacherous.
Characteristics
- Dangerous Waters: Full of dangerous shoals, shallow reefs, and hidden coves. Difficult navigation for the uninitiated.
- Lighthouses: Region is dotted with numerous lighthouses in various states of repair — some active and manned, others long abandoned.
Key Locations
Watchtower Cay
Party’s destination — Dr. Thorne’s lab.
- Terrain: A long, jagged sliver of razor-sharp coral and black rock acting as a breakwater against the open ocean. There is almost no soft ground here—only stone teeth jutting from the surf.
- The Spire: A crumbling, weather-beaten stone tower, its whitewash stripped by centuries of storms. Massive copper cables and brass pipes are crudely bolted to the exterior, running up to the lantern room like parasitic vines.
- The Light: The original glass lens is smashed. In its place, a chaotic assembly of focusing mirrors and prisms rotates jerkily, emitting an erratic, pulsing violet arc that scans the water rather than guiding ships.
- The Keeper’s House (The Lab): The attached stone cottage has its roof replaced with a patchwork of copper sheeting and glass skylights. Vent stacks belch strange alchemical smoke. It looks less like a home and more like a boiler room explosion frozen in time.
- Glass Beach: One of the few landing spots, but far from safe. The “sand” is entirely composed of deep drifts of crushed sea-glass, crystal shards, and broken alchemical vials. It chimes musically when walked upon but slices through boots.
- Defenses: Tripwires → flash-bangs, “Notify-Runes” that shriek when stepped on, scrap-metal scarecrows hiding primitive spring-guns.
- The Siphon Monitor: Located in the Keeper’s House. A floor-to-ceiling brass pressure gauge, glass cracked, needle vibrating in the “Critical” red zone.
Smuggler’s Eye
A secret cove used by smugglers. The Nebuchadnezzar originally docked here to pick up Clarion cargo. Details TBD
The Low Road (The Hidden Current)
Treacherous smuggling route — “a known secret” among oldest smuggler families. Hidden by magical obfuscation.
- The Chart’s Defense: To naked eye, shows the Low Road as impassable rock (False Reef). If stolen, leads nowhere.
- The Secret: Trigger (dampening with seawater / specific lens) dissolves the false ink to reveal the safe channel.
- Strategic Value: Must sail straight toward apparent certain death, trusting the map over your eyes.
